Mainline Hosts First-Ever Overwatch Watch Party
We are thrilled to announce that one of our Founders, Houston-based esports company and studio, Mainline, will host the first-ever, official
Overwatch League video game fan “watch-party,” this Thursday, from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. The inaugural season opening-week match played in Los Angeles, between Overwatch League gaming teams, the Houston Outlaws and the Philadelphia Fusion, will stream and broadcast in real-time onto screens inside the expansive warehouse at the center of The Cannon Campus.
“We are proud to host the first, official esports league season opener at the current Mainline studio and future gaming facility,” said FanReact founder and CEO Chris Buckner. “Houston has a proud fan base that is loyal to its home teams, and we’re excited to enable and energize esports enthusiasts who follow the Houston Outlaws.”
The Overwatch League’s twelve, city-based teams from across the globe are established as permanent franchises. The league’s Atlantic and Pacific Divisions consist of six teams each and will compete in this year’s initial, five-month season for the Overwatch League championship, which comes with a $1 million first place prize and up to $3.5 million in performance payouts and bonuses.
The Houston Outlaws, owned by the firm, Optic Gaming, has a roster of ten players who sport names like Clockwork and Rawkus. Each player is assigned a specialized character role, with the team goal to complete the virtual mission set forth by various Overwatch game challenges and missions.
Admission to the local watch-party is free and open to the public. Complimentary self-parking is available onsite. Six Houston-area food trucks will serve an array of dining options, and No Label Brewery will host complimentary beer service for guests 21 and over. This is a family-friendly event, all minors must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. We’ll see you there!
